I never needed to worry about him getting me signatures to qualify candidates for the ballot.”

Is that all that the life of a good, honorable, loyal, and dedicated Brooklyn Republican activist is worth? A proverbial pat on the back for collecting signatures for candidates they themselves think will lose anyway?

As we begin yet another round of petitioning for State and Federal office, it is the perfect time to evaluate the petitioning process, how deeply flawed it is, and figure out why any party leader would kill themselves to collect signatures for candidates they themselves say will lose.

The petitioning process is one of the most grueling, and least rewarding, experiences in politics, especially for Republicans in Brooklyn.

Most people don’t know what it actually takes to get a candidate on the ballot, and I’m sure if more people did, they would be mortified to the point of insurrection against their elected officials (a threshold we are almost at now for many reasons, I believe). I shall endeavor to write a brief explanation of the process for those unfamiliar with it, but I’m pretty confident if you’re reading this right now, you probably know something about it already.

In order to appear on the ballot as a potential nominee for public office in New York State, you must collect a number of signatures that is equal to 5% of the registered voters in your party in the political unit (Assembly District, City of New York for Mayor, etc.), or a certain set number, whichever is less, in order to qualify for appearing on the Primary Election ballot. Whoever wins the primary automatically gets to appear on the General Election ballot in November. If you run as a independent, you have to collect a number of signatures that equal 5%, or a certain set number, whichever is less, of the votes cast in the last gubernatorial election.

Essentially, outside of local village elections, we’re talking about needing hundreds to thousands of signatures for races as low-level as City Council or State Assembly.

But here’s the kicker: these numbers are assuming that every signature that you collect is the essence of perfection: the person is a registered voter of your party, at the address stated at the Board of Elections, no one uses a first initial, no one uses a different but perfectly acceptable name for the street on which they live, no woman writes only part of her hyphenated last name, you personally witnessed the signature, the person personally identified themselves as the exact same person who is the voter on file at the Board of Elections, and so forth. Everything must be perfect, and as we know, the perfect is the enemy of the good.

Then the war of objections, lawyers, courtrooms, party bosses, and their handpicked patronage hacks, who make decisions at the Board of Elections, all combine to determine whether a candidate, otherwise qualified to run, can survive the government-sponsored capture of ballot access by political bosses (who, by the way, have never really appreciated losing full control over the composition of the ballot in the reforms passed in the late 19th century).

Moreover, as many, many candidates and campaign aides can attest, it is actually easier to stay on the ballot byFORGING the signatures of voters accompanied by perfect replication of all the necessary information (because of the punitive legal fees and court procedures to prove fraud) than it is to actually and honestly collect the signatures from the voters directly! This is completely corrupt, undemocratic and un-American!

Even with this knowledge, along with thousands of other people throughout New York State, I, too, was the victim of this deeply flawed and arcane ballot access process in my City Council race that provided political appointees in the courts and the Board of Elections tremendous discretion over the standing of perfectly valid signatures on my petitions, simply because it was a priority for the political bosses to reduce the number of candidates on the ballot in favor of the bosses’ preferred candidates.

Now that I’ve told you how much control (albeit not absolute control) the party bosses have over the ballot, now we must answer why Republicans, using their institutional advantages to the fullest extent possible, knowingly place on the ballot candidates in whom they have zero confidence.

How many dollars did it take for Brooklyn Republicans to trade up the Republican label to far-from-Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg? In fact, the party leadership kind of takes the “Grand” out of “Grand Old Party.” So the split between the establishment and the reformers continues to grow, but who’s leading in this battle for local hegemony?

I believe it’s quite evident that the Brooklyn GOP establishment is lagging behind significantly in any headway they think they’re making. Playing an extremely poor job at defense, the Establishment can’t seem to be crafty enough to compete with the younger, more vibrant Reformers.

There are two premises: 1) The Brooklyn GOP Establishment is playing pure defense; every move they make is only reactionary to the headway the Reformers are making. 2) The Establishment has made it’s sole priority to exterminate the Reformers rather than concentrating on running principled candidates.

1) So, first came the infamous “Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn” blog a little under a year ago. Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn has since received, on average, roughly 1,000 unique hits per day. Being a WordPress site, Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn can track this information via a free plugin. Clearly the site is popular and trendy. It has a keen urban feel to it while still captivating a technosavvy environment. After the County Convention, the Brooklyn GOP Establishment realized that there was a legitimate Reformist opposition thanks to dissenting blogs like Atlas Shrugs.

To combat an extremely competitive and attractive political culture, the GOP Establishment decided to run its own shoddy blog called, “The Jig Is Up Atlas.” There are lots of funny things about this blog. The first and most interesting thing to point out is that the blog was released as a reaction to “Atlas Shrugged.” The title alone gives it away. Reread it: “The Jig Is Up, Atlas.” It is as if the Establishment has something to defend that they needed to name their own blog after the other.

“The Jig” blog is laughable at best. They call all five of their fans “jiggers” and have, at one point, self professed themselves as the “Brooklyn GOP Hate Blog,” which alone tells us that the blog serves no political purpose and instead treads on individuals based on ethnicity and sexual orientation, something they have already done. Whenever a hack of the Establishment writes on this “blog,” they like to begin by stating, “to the millions of fans.” That’s pretty funny considering that BlogSpot has no counter system/ plugin that allows you to track how many visitors go to the site. The comments on each post are clearly written by the writers and the diction is comparable to a retarded panda on drugs.

After the Establishment decided to run their counter blog, they found a new threat to their unearthly existence. The Brooklyn Young Republican ActionCast! aired on May 19th, 2010. With over a hundred viewers, the ActionCast! was a demonstration of sheer transparency in club actions and healthy debate on a variety of issues ranging from Puerto Rican statehood to Lucretia Regina-Potter’s race for State Assembly in the 49th Assembly District.

So, again, what was the Establishment’s reaction? An online radio. Yep, an online radio. They knew they couldn’t carbon copy the Brooklyn YR webcam & chat; that would look too weak (they probably didn’t know how to operate a webcam). So rather than looking “too weak,” they decided to look just plain “weak.” You really have to be desperate and out of ideas to start stealing communications concepts from a bunch of 20 year olds.

Which leads me to my last example. Realizing that their competition has been “a bunch of 20 year olds,” the Establishment understood that their old, neoconservative, narrow minded mentalities on everything were getting them essentially nowhere. To undermine Lucretia Regina-Potter’s campaign, they ran Peter Cipriano, a 20 year old who’s still in college, for State Assembly. I really admire the boy’s feel for politics and I’m glad he’s getting involved. But for State Assembly? Really? He has no political experience (and don’t tell me he worked with Bloomberg; that Mayor is anything but a Republican or a politician), has never been in County Committee, and isn’t even done with school. Again, he’s running as a reaction to Lucretia’s campaign, not as a winnable candidate, let alone against Peter Abbate, a 24-year incumbent.

2) In playing defense, the Brooklyn GOP Establishment has positioned itself in a corner. It realizes that it’s losing grasp of reality and has resorted to personal attacks on its own party members rather than principled debate on issues and Party headway. It’s kind of sad. You’d think that a Party Establishment would welcome new ideas, negotiate improved policies, fund winnable candidates, or actually act Republican. But this one doesn’t. And that’s precisely why the Reformers exist. But the establishment doesn’t like that and cannot seem to engage in open debate… because they lack principle? have egos the size of whales (Gerry O’Brien)? the intelligence of squirrels? I’m not entirely sure but whatever the case may be, the Establishment has a severe case of Jealousy and they need to get that checked. So what’s the new “strategy” (if you’d even call it that)? Undermine and destroy all opposition.

You see, the party runs like a socialist regime. Dissent is quickly squashed and Party Leaders (I like to call them, Kommissars) are Stalinists who engage in the weird demagoguery of State Senator Marty Golden… not entirely sure why. And it’s no coincidence that the Establishment’s median age is 60 while the average Reformer’s median age is 21. It’s also pretty funny that a bunch of 21 year olds are giving the GOP Establishment a nice run for their money (or whatever Craig Eaton didn’t squander away on “political consultants”).

Their really unpopular “Hate Blog” has publicly defamed individuals like myself on accounts of race, religion, sexual orientation, and lifestyle (most of which is clearly untrue, but done anyway to undermine the person but not the principle). I mean, let’s face it, the blog and the establishment are hardly worth talking about, but I find it pretty hilarious that people are capable of being this nuts. And plus, I think this is a pretty neat analysis of human psychology and why people think the way they think or do the things they do.

I say let the GOP Establishment play defense all they want. The Reformers will continue in their steadfast ways to change Republican politics back to where it should be: a party that upholds that thing called The Constitutionand truly believes in small government and wide transparency. The Establishment has done absolutely nothing to promote Liberty. We Reformers have found a home in it.

"Son of Liberty" Roy Antoun Punches Deep Blow in Establishment Regime

We have covered Revolutionary Roy Antoun before; however, he has blown us away with his latest move supporting a fellow blog, "Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn." I think it's pure genius. His article is below:

The Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn blog has been the leading dissenter in the front lines combating the neoconservative Brooklyn GOP establishment. I don’t write for the blog, but I most certainly do support their efforts in pushing for smaller, limited, and transparent government. And I know clearly that the bloggers on this website understand that cannot be done with the Democratic Party in New York. But the sad part is, it can’t be done with the Republican Party in Brooklyn either.

For many Brooklynites, lower taxes and less government intrusion on their private lives are a far cry from what we currently have. The Brooklyn Republican Party, which is supposed to be the party of smaller government, is defunct. No one knows where the money goes and election results clearly show that. And does the party chairman even bother to support principled candidates? In the words of John Boehner, “Hell no!” Did he help my good friend, Jonathan Judge, in his campaign for City Council? Hell No. Is he as clueless about Ayn Rand’s philosophy as the rest of the twits running the party? Hell yes.

I’ve been attacked repetitively by the party establishment for thinking differently. I’ve been attacked because when I say I believe in small government, I really believe in small government. When I want an unnecessary war to end because it’s costing we, the tax payers, a ton of money, it means I want true peace. When I say government is the biggest proponent of corporatism and monopolies, I mean government truly is the biggest proponent of corporatism and monopolies. But what has the establishment done? They have praised big-government “republicans” like Scott Brown, and democrats in Brooklyn. They have outlandishly declared themselves as “Hate Bloggers” and engaged in racist dialog about Arabs living in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights. The last time I heard a political party outwardly profess hate in the public, we had the holocaust and National Socialism, which isn’t too far off from how the party actually operates in its exclusivity to its members.

So, in lieu of this little Revolution, I give my full support to whoever is running “Atlas Shrugs in Brooklyn.” I shrug with you.

Still Not A Republican: How the Brooklyn GOP's Latest Move Is a Laugh In Your Face

I recently found an interesting article about why Theodore Roosevelt is considered what Glenn Beck would call a "Progressive" rather than a true conservative. Thomas E. Woods, author of Meltdown, wrote this piece on TR. Woods writes,

This was the kind of energy and vigor that Theodore Roosevelt brought to his office and that he used to promote his distinct philosophy of the presidency. “There inheres in the presidency more power than in any other office in any great republic or constitutional monarchy of modern times,” Roosevelt once remarked. But far from deploring this state of affairs, he went on to say, “I believe in a strong executive; I believe in power.”
This is disheartening for any Republican who has to live knowing that the new or "reemerged" Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club of Brooklyn is named after the same President who called himself a Republican but deliberately chose to invest so much centralized power into once branch of government.

I'm almost certain that Republicans are supposed to be for limited government, not the expansion of government power. And for some reason, certain Republicans believe it's ok when they operate bloated bureaucracies but it's not ok when Democrats do the same exact thing. This is what I like to call "unprincipled politics" and that is precisely what the Brooklyn GOP is guilty of.

To name a local club after TR, a President who was essentially a corporatist, is unprincipled, ignorant, and ill educated. It's really hard to call yourself a Republican after praising someone like Theodore Roosevelt, cousin of the most socialist President in this nation's history, FDR.

Public Discontent

Jonathan Judge, President of the Brooklyn Young Republicans, recently posted the following article on his website. The Revolution is indeed on its way.

In the past two weeks, we have seen in reality that there are two very different Brooklyn Republican Parties.

This past Monday, I went to a special meeting of the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Club in Bensonhurst. In a standing room only crowd, I got to hear from Lucretia Regina-Potter, a very good friend of mine and a staunch reformer of the Brooklyn Republican Party, who is running for State Assembly. Also present was Michael Grimm, 13th Congressional District candidate, and Joe DioGuardi, who is running for U.S. Senate against Gillibrand. All three are petitioning their way on the ballot as the independent Republican candidates (read: not endorsed by the party).

People coming off the train were so intrigued by the size of the gathering that they decided to stop in to see what was going on. When Mike Grimm arrived, he had to fight his way through the crowd just to get to the front!

Conversely, two fellow Republicans in the 44th Assembly District, Christina and John Bennett, went to attend a meeting of the permanently-defunct-but-resurrected-temporarily-when-convenient Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club in late May.

(It is important to know that the Theodore Roosevelt Club is the brainchild of political consultant, Gerry O’Brien, who picks up a hefty $1,800 paycheck from State Senator Marty Golden each month. He is also behind some atrocious behavior that has stifled Republican Party growth in the 44th Assembly District for decades, especially as he recently performed $10,000 worth of paid work for incumbent Democratic 44th AD Assemblyman Jim Brennan (but that’s a story for another day). Never forget: paid consultants only do what they do in order to profit and accrue power to help them practice their craft better.)

However, much to even my surprise, an off-duty police officer, P.O. O’Malley, actually blocked these two people from entering, even though they are duly elected County Committee Members of the area in which the meeting was held! They were told the meeting was invitation only as she flashed her NYPD badge, despite the club’s own literature that proclaims an open invitation to all.

This behavior is yet another reason for the larger rift and atrophy (decay?) of the Brooklyn Republican Party, and indicative of why the current leaders can’t win an election to save their lives, and why the reformers haven’t been able to, either.

On the one hand, you have a club that meets in an open storefront, surrounded with large panes of glass that allow all the day’s sunshine to come through on its leaders, candidates and participants, one that welcomes strangers off the street to hear the message of the Republican Party’s principles. Such a club is despised and ever-undermined at every turn by the party.

On the other hand, you have a club that meets once in Lord knows how many years, in a Knights of Columbus hall with no windows for the public to see through, and utilizes an off-duty NYPD officer to deliberately keep people out. Worse yet, the meeting was merely a opportunity for the exclusive invitees (mostly poll workers from what I know) to witness the self-glorification of the current leaders of the failed Brooklyn Republican establishment: Chairman Craig Eaton, District Leader Marty Cottingham, and State Senator Marty Golden’s Chief of Staff and Kings County Conservative Party Chairman Jerry Kassar (anyone wonder why a Conservative Party Chairman is talking at a Republican Club meeting?).

You may not be very surprised to hear such things occur in a closed-off political club meeting, but the offense comes from the fact that these individuals have allowed Brooklyn Democrats to co-opt the Republican Party for certain perks (something which will also be discussed further in a later post).

Ultimately, and sadly, there is a very clear trend between these two factions of the party that does not bode well for Republicans and reformers unless we start to act.

What we see from the Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club and the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Club is replicated throughout the borough in Republican circles. The party leadership à la TR Club is exclusive, by invitation only and no dissent is permitted or the cops will show you the door.

That’s why the party went to great lengths to remove Yvette Velázquez Bennett as 44th AD District Leader–despite her profound loyalty to its leadership–because she dared to demonstrate independent and principled thought (when, for instance, she voted against giving Mayor Michael Bloomberg the Republican Party line in exchange for a $125,000 donation to the party, especially when the Mayor and the party have infrequently agreed on policy).

That’s why the party is going to even greater lengths to annihilate the Republican infrastructure of the 49th Assembly District because it dares to think on principle and act independently–and has the resources to make it happen. They would much rather enjoy the fruits of their cozy deals with local Democrats, including 49th AD Assemblyman Peter Abbate, to protect Marty Golden’s State Senate seat.

That’s why the party’s leaders have a pathological fear of allowing any intelligent, motivated and conscientious Young Republicans play any kind of leadership role in Republican politics. Not only do they worry deeply that they are meeting their replacements, but that their own undermining of the party has weakened themselves to the point that the replacement may be happening sooner than they would like.

And sadly, most of the remainder of the Republican Party leadership, even those who do see how bad things have gotten, concurrently hold Board of Election jobs that are significantly controlled by the party bosses. That means: do as leader says, or lose your job, capisce?

This is not the state in which the great and proud Brooklyn Republican Party should be. We can do better and we ought to strive to make it so. Luckily, we have the Fiorello LaGuardia Republican Club, and the Brooklyn Young Republican Club, and many other grassroots Republican activists, for instance, which have prided themselves on an open-door policy. Every Republican is welcome and actually welcomed (not when it is only convenient to permit). Whatever we do, we make perfectly public. The YRs have even begun operating meetings online so not only can more people be a part of the experience, but every single word that is said is recorded for future public consumption and scrutiny.

For those of us 112,000 Republicans out there in Brooklyn, we need you to care locally as much as you do nationally. We need you to help sign and collect the petitions of the candidates who are not only best equipped to make the case for Republicanism at the polls in November, but also those who are going to do the most to reform and propel the nearly-defunct Brooklyn Republican Party towards brighter and more prosperous days.

The reformers are here to stay. If you’re game, email me at JJJudge@gmail.com or call me at 718-360-9583 and let’s show Republicans, Democrats and independents what real, honest change in the right direction looks like.

The Revolution Is Well Under Way

If Only They Read a Book...

So the Brooklyn GOP has decided to sprout out another puppet "Club" to uphold the "rising stars" of the Brooklyn Republican Party. Rising stars like Gerry O'Brien, Craig Eaton, and Clorinda Annarummo. Rising stars that are experiencing a super nova, slowing imploding on themselves.

In the wake of the "Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club," I'm going to begin thrashing the Brooklyn GOP with one thesis: Theodore Roosevelt was not a Republican.

If they did their homework at all, if they understood history whatsoever, if they stopped the high school humor on their self-professed Hate Blog, they would understand that Teddy Roosevelt did not exhibit the principles of a true Republican. If anything, President Roosevelt represented the birth of the Progressive Movement.

Roosevelt was the same President who was dubbed, "Trust Buster." Why? Because he outlawed companies from forming trusts; this was not only a direct interference and regulation of the free market, but Roosevelt sought to make markets "fair" rather than "free." I thought Republicans were supposed to believe in small limited government?

This President also sent Union troops to protesting miners in 1902 and allowed Federal soldiers to open fire on the strike, killing several American citizens. Why? Because Teddy Roosevelt wanted Federal control over the coal industry... the same way Barack Obama wants control over the health industry.

After his defeat, President Roosevelt decided to start the "Bull Moose Party," and chose not to run again as a Republican. So as a big-government, Republican Party turncoat, the Brooklyn GOP has decided to name its very own club after this statist advocate.

You really don't have to go farther than the title to know that the Brooklyn GOP is completely off its rocker and literally has no clue as to what it is doing, what it wants to achieve, and how it wants to achieve it. They've become so desperate to rally supporters for their Hate-induced fanfare that they couldn't even look twice at who they're naming their clubs after.

Good job Brooklyn GOP. We commend you... for being the most illiterate and uneducated concoction of morons this great Borough has ever seen.

Let the Revolution take its toll. A recent poll shows Rand 18 points ahead of his neoconservative counterpart.

With the Primary tomorrow, May 18th, we can expect Liberty to spread in another State of this slightly broken Union.

Brooklyn can learn a lot from Rand Paul and Kentucky. Rand Paul's victory will show us that liberty is contagious and neoconservatism has no place in a society longing for the actual minimization of government. While Democrats continue to operate New York City like a Keynesian, statist hub, Republicans in New York must realize two things:

1) The Tea Party is split between Ron Paul and Sarah Palin. Considering that Sarah Palin has the intelligence of a peanut and Ron Paul has the principles of Thomas Jefferson, it's quite clear that Ron Paul's Tea Party (which he started in 2007 by the way) is a message to follow and uphold.

2) Simply lowering taxes (or saying you want to) doesn't make you a Republican. State Senator Marty Golden, for example, thinks that helping the elderly and attempting to make New York a "safer" place to live distinguishes him from other candidates. No, these are normative statements that make you look as senile as John McCain trying to talk about "American values." Sorry, but no one cares about prerequisite stances on issues: safety should be *every* politician's priority, not just yours, Marty.

What Rand's Primary win is going to tell us is that people are simply "fed up" with... the Fed. Government has become too big, Neoconservative Republicans have utterly failed us, and people want deregulated markets to let their businesses thrive. "Don't steal; the government hates competition" is a message that is ringing through everyone's ears.

Don't be afraid to say you believe in Libertarian values. There is nothing wrong with liberty, deregulation, and transparency. Stand up and let your voice be heard. You're not alone.

- Thomas

No Turning Back II

It seems our racist friends at the Brooklyn GOP have come to terms with how stupid they really are. In lieu of our latest post, "No Turning Back," Gerry O'Brien, Clorinda Annarummo, and Craig Eaton have decided not to be racists anymore and become fans of the First Amendment.

Here's another picture for posterity:

Not only do I find it quite infantile that they dub their "fanbase" as "Jiggers," but "Free speech lives on here" is perhaps as laughable as Gerry O'Brien's weight or Clorinda Annarummo's GOP "leadership."

So with a new motto, the Brooklyn GOP is trying to win the "hearts and minds" of its fellow citizens. Through free speech, right? Guess again. Their little Hate Blog has undermined musicians such as Justin Lee Brannan for precisely what they are supposedly advocating for: free speech. Further demonstrating hypocrisy at its best, our little "Jiggers" have, on numerous occasions, ridiculed people for sexual orientation and self expression.

I remember, a long time ago, a Republican Party that actually believed in this thing called the Constitution. And in this little document Liberty and Freedom meant Liberty and Freedom. To represent the Republican Party today and publicly defame an individual on race, sexual orientation, or self-expression kind of makes you a statist and not a Republican.

To all my very good friends over at the Brooklyn GOP Hate Blog,

The change of your motto makes you look like an unprincipled fool shying away from a big mistake.

Your public defamation can get you sued.

And last but not least, Gerry O'Brien, Clorinda Annarummo, Craig Eaton, you have proven yourselves to be the most hypocritical, fascist members of society I have ever seen. Bashing gays and showing intolerance to an artist's freedom of speech goes above and beyond idiocy.

Congratulations, you guys have officially earned yourselves zero public legitimacy.

Corrupting the Youth

I recently came across a little tidbit from Xaverian High School about a Xaverian Young Republicans Club hanging out with State Senator Marty Golden. This is such a wonderful way of corrupting our youth that I don't think even Barack Obama can top.

I'm not entirely sure what's worse: Teaching youth how to share, or teaching youth how to buy your very own State Senate seat. In either case, wrong move.

This sounds almost as bad as the Brooklyn GOP trying to get "youth involved" with their party at their little "Rally Against Socialized Medicine" shindig and then becoming a self-professed hate blog that teaches kids how to become full fledged racists at the expense of people who actually give a damn about the communities they live in.

What's the Brooklyn GOP going to do next? Praise Scott Brown's latest stunt in not Auditing the Federal Reserve? They absolutely loved his election win. This is the same Senator who voted for a Democrat Jobs Bill, refused to go to his own state's Tea Party, and recently joined Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders in opposing Federal Reserve Transparency.

So while the Brooklyn GOP establishment continues to suck the life out of politics in general, now they enjoy prostituting to our youth.

Someone, please stop them.

- Adam

No Turning Back

As the Brooklyn GOP continues to delegitimize itself in the face of adversity, we see a new side to Craig Eaton, Clorinda Annarummo, et al.

An awfully unpopular GOP blog has this subheader valiantly emplaced on it's website:

"Wanna Join the Brooklyn GOP Hate Blog?"

Here's a picture of it for posterity:

So what does this tell us about the Brooklyn GOP? It has evidently gone mad. A political party, an entity that is supposed to uphold principles and fix government, has successfully prostituted itself into... a "hate blog"?

Really?

Is this how they want to be remembered as Republicans? The colloquial "leaders" of the Brooklyn GOP are essentially self-professing hate and malice to the people of Brooklyn. I don't care if you're a political party or an individual, I think it's abhorrent to publicly profess "hatred" or any kind to anyone. "Hate" is such a strong word to use in a such a fragile society and again, these Brooklyn GOP "leaders" have prostituted politics into malice.

Republicanism and conservatism at heart are the epitome of individualism, civil liberty, and societal tolerance. Read William F. Buckley's Flying High: Remembering Barry Goldwater, and George H. Nash's The Conservative Intellectual Movement in America. You'll find that both books recognize libertarianism as being the root and cornerstone of modern conservatism. Both of these writers were also conservative 'godfathers'. In fact, Nash's book begins: "Chapter 1: The Revolt of the Libertarians".

The point I'm trying to make here is that conservatism goes beyond mainstream blogging by GOP, hate-induced racists. Conservatism and Republicanism are philosophies and principles of governance. And now that the Brooklyn GOP's mantra is officially, "Brooklyn GOP Hate", then we, as concerned citizens should want nothing to do with an ignorant platform of degenerates destroying American values.

- George

Remove the Old Hacks

It's one thing to challenge a politician on policy but it's another thing to degrade them for a stereotype. I mean, it takes guts to poke fun of your own party members by calling them names.

What the Brooklyn GOP leaders have done recently was taken something so precious as governance and prostituted it to something power-hungry and pathetic. Clorinda Annarummo and Craig Eaton need to ask themselves one thing: "What did I do to deserve this?"

I think they did a lot. For one, take Roy Antoun's story. Did Clorinda tell Roy who his proxy would be voting for at the GOP County Convention? Did she tell Roy who was running against Craig Eaton? Did she even give Roy the option of sending a different proxy before the County Convention? Did Roy vote for Craig Eaton?

The answers are no, no, no, and HELL NO. Do you blame him? Why on earth would Roy Antoun vote for Craig after he realized the lies and deceit perplexed from the Brooklyn GOP-industrial complex. It would come to no surprise, then, why incumbent Craig Eaton won reelection. If all the proxies at the County Convention were gathered in this deceitful way, then it's no wonder why the same old neoconservative hacks get reelected. The stories are endless. Fabian Gambino, another County Committeeman was apparently threatened by Mr. Eaton for voting otherwise!

There's a fundamental difference between healthy debate and outlandish ridicule. Considering that GOP leaders in Brooklyn have resorted to the latter, their legitimacy within the party, let alone all of Brooklyn, has exponentially dwindled. In all seriousness, how can you take kindergarten humor seriously anyway? How can you take Clorinda and friends seriously anyway?

When kids like Fabian Gambino and Roy Antoun run for County Committee, the message is clear. There must be reform in order for true Republican principles to flourish. These kids, these poor college students ran because they clearly believed in something. They had no law firms to protect, no incumbent positions to sell their souls to; they're just genuine scholars of the political framework trying to make a difference.

What is laughable, however, is how the GOP (these old, so-called "experienced" hacks) are seeing 20-year-olds as their biggest threats! And good for them! The GOP needs some new blood- but it needs more than just these two kids, Roy and Fabian.

You, yes YOU reading this blog- get up and research County Committee. Gather a team together and protest something. Start you're own blog. You ARE the political framework. You ARE the Republic for which we stand. These are the basics of representative government; show you're angry and you're not gonna take it anymore! We can't just sit around and watch these people destroy the very notion of representation that our forefathers fought so hard to protect. There are hardly any Republican voters left in Brooklyn and it's all because of our old neoconservative hacks. YOU need to be the change in the Party.

I know there are conservatives out there- real conservatives who believe in small, limited government. End this nonsense. Get up and join the Brooklyn Revolution!

- Benjamin

What is a Republican in Brooklyn?

Politics isn't about power. Politics is the art of governance.

With Brooklyn receiving no Republican representation in City Council, it's easy to imagine what Brooklyn GOP Chairman Craig Eaton is doing behind his desk, watching the party crumble. It's obvious the Republican Party is split nationwide and locally; however, what exactly is the best course of action?

Before we can answer that, the better question would be, "What exactly makes a Republican?" Not too long ago, being a Republican meant limiting government back to its Constitutional roots. It meant diplomatic peace and competent statecraft. The damage the Bush administration did to the image of the Republican Party goes unprecedented. This "neoconservative" belief that as long as the Republicans win and Democrats lose, everything will be ok has got to go.

Both Republicans and Democrats today have prostituted our governments locally and nationally. We have developed the "Republicrat"- just look at State Senator Marty Golden. Why has his seat been unmatched for so long? Why is his website so ambiguous?

A commenter on the Atlas Shrugs Blog had it right when he said,

Dear Marty Golden & Brooklyn GOP:

1) Expanding schools doesn’t make
you a Republican.
2) Cutting taxes doesn’t mean eliminating State-run
programs.
3) Being against crime doesn’t make you a Republican.
4)
Helping seniors doesn’t make you a Republican.

Normative stances on
issues does not make you a Republican.
You’re a stain in the New York State
Senate.

What is "Republican" about any of this? How does it limit government?

It doesnt. And the Brooklyn GOP publicaly endorsing a "Republican" candidate like Scott Brown doesn't help especially when Sen. Brown voted for a Democrat Jobs Bill and refused to attend his own Tea Party on Tax Day.

Craig Eaton, Clorinda Annarummo, and Marty Golden have a lot to prove to us in terms of their level of conservatism. Their petty blogs and silly propaganda have obvously taken the party nowhere if Republicans continue to lose election after election. It would also be nice if they ran actual conservatives as well.

They bicker and whine about money, money, money but people will not voluntarily donate to party that's as corrupt as the Obama Administration.

Right now, there are a handful of people leading the charge in the Brooklyn Revolution. Roy Antoun, a libertarian-minded blogger, and Jonathan Judge, President of the Brooklyn YRs, have been continuously challenging the status quo and fighting the good fight in the name of conservatism.

How are YOU going to change Brooklyn politics? How are YOU going to mobilize and transform our style of governance. The power is in the people's hands. The power is in the vote.

Get up, go out, and run for office or vote - on the virtue of principle.

As Thomas Jefferson once said, "In style, sway like the wind, in principle stand like a rock."

Venting On Local Ignorance

From Roy's Website:

"I find it extremely odd how many GOP establishments continue to support and endorse “Republicans” who act like their socialist counterparts. Perhaps congratulating him isn’t the most conservative thing to do either.

Considering that the Brooklyn GOP consists of old, right-wing neoconservatives such as District Leader Clorinda Annarummo, it is really difficult to classify many elites in the Brooklyn GOP as “conservative” to begin with. Clorinda, on record, has donated $250 to Rudy Giuliani’s Presidential campaign, the same candidate who vouched for a “National ID Card” and other ways of taking away your civil and constitutional liberties. Again, perhaps not the most conservative thing to do, especially when you’re the District Leader of a political party that’s supposed to limit government federally, not expand it.

All politics is local, and seeing that Brooklyn’s Republican Party hasn’t and still isn’t acting conservative, it’s hard for true conservatives living in Brooklyn to support an establishment that functions similar to its Democratic opponents. Both parties seem to be headed in the same direction; the only difference is the way they’re getting there. This is bad news for Brooklyn GOP Chairman, Craig Eaton, whose neoconservative views and leadership have actually taken the party absolutely nowhere. Brooklyn has not a single Republican seat in City Council and Mr. Eaton’s efforts to stifle true conservatives such as Jonathan Judge in local races only promulgates the wrong message of true conservatism.

If young Brooklynites want to see real change in the coming months, they need to see beyond the standard, George Bush-induced politics that has lagged the Brooklyn GOP for the past decade. Joining other organizations such as the Young Americans for Liberty, and even the Brooklyn Young Republicans Club can introduce a new horizon of conservatism that is deeply rooted in philosophy, principle, and common sense.
